ABOUT OUR CHAPTER
On November 17, 2023, the Associate Chapter of Delta Phi Lambda Sorority Inc. Charter Class was chartered at the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities by Varshaa Senthilkumar, Ilina Gupta, Ashley Mathew, Elliana Nordhaus, Annabella Lau, Alexus Nguyen, Miranda Hexter, Sundy Nguyen, and Sara Lam. The Nebulous Nine Charter Member Educators were Tammy “Inaaya” Lu, Suedeenie “SPECTRΛL” Lee, and Susanna “É©lenyal” Zheng.
CHARTER HISTORY
The interest group, VERA, was founded in the Spring of 2020 at the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities with intentions to charter an Asian interest sorority. Due to obstacles in their chartering efforts, VERA was suggested to be dissolved. However, Asha Suvarna and the seven unwavering members persevered. In the Spring of 2021, these eight women rebranded VERA. The rebrand placed a strong emphasis on providing a safe space for Asian and multicultural women who were passionate about destigmatizing topics of sexual and women’s health. To ensure the sustainability of VERA, their mission, and their friendships, they committed to chartering a sorority. Upon extensive research, VERA decided that Delta Phi Lambda Sorority, Inc. best represented their original intentions and values of honesty, dedication, empowerment of womxn leaders, and the advocacy for sexual health and wellness of Asian and multicultural communities.
Angelin Prasad continued the legacy of VERA after the rebrand, thereafter, VERA became known for their commitment to philanthropy, service, and community. From the Spring of 2020 to the Spring of 2023, VERA experienced significant member turnover and setbacks. Their first expansion presentation to the Multicultural Greek Council in the Spring of 2022 received pushback from other organizations and was unsuccessful. Undeterred, VERA reaffirmed their passion for serving the multicultural community and the strong bonds between one another. With the steadfast leadership of Angelin Prasad, VERA finally gained recognition by the Multicultural Greek Council on February 22, 2023.
Under the guidance of Charter Member Educators, Tammy Lu, Suedeenie Lee, and Susanna Zheng, and the leadership of Sundy Nguyen, VERA began their Charter Member Education journey. With unwavering perseverance Varshaa Senthilkumar, Ilina Gupta, Ashley Mathew, Elliana Nordhaus, Annabella Lau, Alexus Nguyen, Miranda Hexter, Sundy Nguyen, and Sara Lam surmounted multiple challenges and times of uncertainty to finally charter the 26th Chapter of Delta Phi Lambda Sorority, Inc. as the Nebulous Nine on November 17, 2023.
